Philosophy of Athletics
Students have many opportunities to participate on an athletic team at Union Grove Christian School. The philosophy of athletics at Union Grove Christian School is to provide a medium by which our students can glorify Jesus Christ through athletic competition. Our goal is to teach principles of courage, discipline, cooperation, commitment, sportsmanship, respect for others and grace and humility in victory or defeat.
Our coaches and student-athletes are expected to do their best at all times in the true spirit of Christ-centered competition.
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. ~I Corinthians 9:24
Success for teams will not be measured by the number of games or championships we win. Our success will be measured by how much we grow as teams and as individuals, and how well we represent Christ. The coaches purpose is to develop young Christian men and women of character and faith. We take the verses 1 Corinthians 9:24 and Proverbs 27:17 very seriously at Union Grove Christian School.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. ~Proverbs 27:17
We believe that competition not only builds character, but it also reveals character. We intend to glorify God in all we do, both in and out of competition, through the good times and not so good times, using teachable moments to help sharpen the faith of our student-athletes. Our goal is to equip our student-athletes with a strong sense of faith and a close connection with Jesus Christ so that our boys and girls will become men and women of empathy and integrity, who will lead, be responsible and help change the world for good.
Currently our school offers for the girls, volleyball and basketball. For the boys, the school offers soccer and basketball.
All Union Grove Christian School athletes are required to have a physical from a doctor on file with the athletic department. If you have not done so, arrange for a physical as soon as possible. Your physical for the school year lastsfor that school year. If the calendar that you have for physicals does not align with that or if you are allowed physicals only one every two years, we will accept physicals from outside the school-year calendar if the doctor is willing to send a copy of the latest one. If you have questions, please contact our school office.
